The portfolio reviews will take place on Thursday 28 September and be hosted online. Participants will be able to connect with experts worldwide in one or more 20-minute slots to showcase their portfolios and expand their network, getting feedback and practical advice to further their photographic visions.

Chiara Bardelli Nonino is an independent curator and editor. With an MA in Aesthetics, her research and writings focus on contemporary visual art and its intersection with identity and post-internet culture. She is a curator for the Photo Vogue Festival, where fashion is explored from a socio-political point of view, and has been the Senior Visual Editor of Vogue Italia, L’Uomo Vogue and Vogue.it photography section for over a decade. She is a contributor among others of d Repubblica and Bazaar Italia and works on independent curatorial projects.

Francesca Marani is Visual Editor of Global PhotoVogue and co-curator of PhotoVogue Festival (2016-2021), the first conscious fashion photography festival dedicated to the common ground between ethics and aesthetics. In 2018, she curated a series of talks on contemporary photography for the Affordable Art Fair (Milan), co-curated the exhibition "Italian Panorama" at Armani/Silos, and was a juror of the Ooshot Award (Paris). She was a portfolio reviewer of the Blink Portfolio Review (New York, 2018-2019), juror of Photolucida's Critical Mass (2018-2022) and Fresh Eyes (2019-2021). In 2019 she took part in "Scouting for India" (Mumbai), Vogue Talents' project in collaboration with FAD International Academy, co-curated the exhibition "Future Shock" and was guest editor of Personne magazine (ISSUE 02). In 2020 she was a juror of the PHmuseum 2020 Mobile Photo Prize, Photoville FENCE and did portfolio reviews for Eddie Adams Portfolio Review, Perimetro Collective Review and Italy Photo Award. In 2021 she was a member of the jury of LensCulture Portrait Awards. Francesca regularly collaborates with several photography festivals and schools as portfolio reviewer and lecturer.

Giangavino Pazzola

Ph.D. in Urban and Cultural Studies at Politecnico di Torino, since 2018 he has been associate curator at CAMERA - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin. In 2023 he was appointed curator of the Photography and Moving Image Section at Arte Fiera Bologna and project manager of EXPOSED | Torino Foto Festival by Fondazione per la Cultura Torino. He collaborates with national and international organisations and institutions for which he has curated projects, exhibitions, and juries. Visiting researcher at the University of Birmingham, he has written on centres and independent production publishing in international and national academic journals. He teaches Aesthetics at the IED in Turin.

Jane’a Johnson is an independent curator and writer. Most recently, she was the Artistic Director of Foam (Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam). Her work and writings have focused on archives, museums, photography, race, and the visual culture of the African Diaspora. She is formerly Assistant Professor of Theory of Art + Design and History, Philosophy + Social Sciences at Rhode Island School of Design. Johnson received her PhD in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University, where she directed the Photographic Archives Research Group. Her exhibition, Past Made Present: Dutch Shadows in the Black Atlantic, opened at Rhode Island School of Design in Summer 2022.

Karen McQuaid is Senior Curator at The Photographers’ Gallery and Associate Lecturer at London College of Communication. She regularly contributes to international workshops, writes for photography publications and edits artists books. At The Photographers’ Gallery she has curated exhibitions including Jim Goldberg, Open See (2009); Fiona Tan, Vox Populi, London (2012); Andy Warhol, Photographs: 1976 – 1987 (2014); Lorenzo Vitturi, Dalston Anatomy (2014) and Rosângela Rennó, Río-Montevideo(2016). She has co-curated Geraldo De Barros, What Remains (2013) with Isobel Whitelegg, Made You Look, Dandyism and Black Masculinity (2016) with Ekow Eshun and Shot in Soho (2019) with Julian Rodriguez. Karen has curated external exhibitions at The Moscow House of Photography and The National Gallery of Kosovo. Karen also facilitates TPG New Talent, a programme and exhibition for UK based emerging practitioners.

Michael Famighetti

Michael Famighetti is editor of Aperture magazine. In 2013, he organized a relaunch and reconceptualization of the magazine, which won a 2018 National Magazine Award for General Excellence. He is the recipient, with guest editor Sarah Lewis, of the ICP Infinity Award for Critical Writing and Research. Famighetti commissions and edits books for Aperture Foundation, is currently a visiting critic at Yale University School of Art and a participant in SVA’s Mentors program. His writing has appeared in Frieze, Bookforum, Aperture, among other publications. He is a member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and has been a guest reviewer and speaker at many international festivals and institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The New York Times; Vogue Italia; FOAM, Amsterdam; Art Gallery of Ontario; the Bamako Biennial, Mali; Kyotographie, Kyoto; Museet for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark; and Fotografiska, Stockholm.

Sara Occhipinti gained a PhD in Regional Planning and Urbanism after studying engineering and architecture. Together with Marco Faganel, she is the co-founder of the Studiofaganel art gallery in Gorizia (Italy). Since 2018 Studiofaganel is also an independent publisher and a bookstore specializing in photography. studiofaganel regularly exhibits photographers and visual artists and curates artistic and editorial projects. In this context, Sara takes care of the curatorship of the exhibitions, the editorial supervision of the publications and the communication.

Svetlana Bachevanova is the executive director of the FotoEvidence Association in France and a co-founder of the acclaimed publishing house FotoEvidence Press (New York 2010). The books she and her team publish expose injustice, create enduring evidence of violations of human rights and inspire social change. Svetlana has worked with some of the most skilled and dedicated documentary photographers to publish their work, human stories recounting indisputable evidence of social injustice. In addition to managing the publication of books, the FotoEvidence exhibits she curated have been presented around the world to promote change. Svetlana conceived the FotoEvidence Book Award and the W Award for women to support the work of photographers dedicated to the pursuit of human rights, publishing work that is unlikely to find commercial publication. Under her management, FotoEvidence has occupied a unique space in the world of photojournalism as both a publishing house and an activist organization.

Independent Curator, Editor, Researcher

Yumi Goto is an independent photography curator, editor, researcher, consultant, educator, and publisher who focuses on the development of cultural exchanges that transcend borders. Based in Japan, she collaborates with local and international artists who live and work in areas affected by conflict, natural disasters, current social problems, human rights abuses, and women’s issues. She often works with human rights advocates, international and local NGOs, and humanitarian organizations and as well as being involved as a nominator and juror for international photographic organizations, festivals, and events. She lives in Tokyo where she is co-founder and curator for the Reminders Photography Stronghold (RPS) which is a curated membership gallery space enabling a wide range of activities liked to photography and photobooks. In addition to the RPS in Tokyo, she established a new RPS offshoot “PAPEROLES” in Kyoto and started its activities in 2020.
